How to Choose the Right CBD & Cannabis Product for You: 4 Choices to Make

If you're interested in trying CBD or cannabis for the first time, it may be daunting to know where to even start! 😩

Luckily, today we’re reviewing the 4 things you MUST consider when choosing a CBD or cannabis product for you. 🙌🙌🙌

To pick the right cannabis product for you, be sure to consider:

1. Feelings desired

2. Consumption tool

3. Product Quality

4. Dosing

Picking the right product for you will require trial-and-error, so keep an open mind as you figure out what’s best for you!

1. Feelings desired

Before you can pick the best product for you, you’ll need to decide how you want to feel and what symptoms you’re hoping to treat.

  • Do you need help falling asleep?

  • Are you replacing your glass of wine and looking for a mild buzz?

  • Are you just sick of your lower back pain? Feeling stressed at the office?

The way that you feel after consuming cannabis, is determined by compounds within cannabis, cannabinoids and terpenes. You can see these listed on the packaging for most CBD and cannabis products. Once you understand the different effects caused by these cannabinoids, you’ll be able to pick the right thing for you!

The two most known cannabinoids are THC and CBD.

🌿Products that contain THC cause the 'high' feeling cannabis is most known for. If you’re trying to unwind and have a sexy night with your boo, enjoy a creativity session, or an adventure with friends, perhaps higher-THC is right. THC is also known to help pain management and sleep.

🌿Products that contain CBD have calming, anti-inflammatory properties but avoid the 'high' feeling. So if you have some naggy muscle pain or some anxiety before you head into work, maybe a higher-CBD option is right for you.

🌿CBN is now becoming more widely available and is known for it’s powerful sedative properties; making it a great cannabinoid for sleep!

An added nuance is that there are actually MANY products on the market that contain a variety of these cannabinoids (THC, CBD and any of the other 113 cannabinoids). These are great because the cannabinoids in cannabis actually work best when they’re working TOGETHER to regulate and modulate each other.

For example, CBD regulates the effects of THC. Which means that if you ever feel ‘too high’ from the THC in your product, you can reduce the ‘highness’ by taking some CBD. Science! 🤓

It’s a lot to know, but the most important thing is to decide what you want from your cannabis or CBD experience. Sleep? A Buzz? Stress-relief? Then find products that contain the appropriate cannabinoids and terpenes!

Here’s a GUIDE TO CANNABINOIDS AND TERPENES that may help!

Here’s an example of the cannabinoid + terpene breakdown on the back of this Chemistry Cannabis Oil box. As you can see, it’s very high in THC (62.3%) and Caryophyllene (1.58%); This means this product would cause noticeable psychoactive and anti-pain effects.

2. Consumption tool

There are tons of options for you to consume CBD and cannabis! There are edibles, burning flower (like in joints), vaporizing flower, tinctures, sprays, creams. 🤯 🤯

What work’s best for you will depend on several factors:

  • How long do you have? (Ex: The onset of an edible’s effects could take 30 minutes-2 hours versus smoking a joint, which take effect almost immediately)

  • How long do you want the effects to last? (Ex: The effects of an edible would also last longer than those of a joint)

  • How discreet do you need/want to be? (Ex: Do you need to avoid all cannabis smell? taste?)

3. Product Quality

If you live in a regulated market, everything that you purchase at a dispensary has been tested (Yay!) But if you’re in non-recreational/medicinal state, then you’ll be limited to buying hemp CBD products online. No matter what:

🌿Always buy products from brands that have been third-party tested and can confirm the concentration of CBD or other cannabinoids in the product.

4. Dosing

Dosing is incredibly important since a dose that is too small may have no noticeable effect, while a dose that is too high can actually increase the symptom you’re trying to treat. That’s why you hear that cannabis can be used to reduce stress and anxiety, but if the dosage is too high, it can actually increase stress and cause paranoia. 😲

For New Users:

🌿THC doses range from 2.5-5 mgs

🌿CBD doses range from 5-25 mgs

Certain tools like tinctures and edibles make it easier to measure out your dose. If taking hits of a vape pen or a joint, it might be harder to know how much CBD or cannabis is in each hit. So start low and slow and adjust as you go!

I know it’s a lot of information but YOU GOT THIS. It will take some trial-and-error, but CBD and cannabis are great all-natural tools that could be helpful within your arsenal of wellness practices! I hope this was helpful and please reach out with all your questions!
